2016 Amce Shorty

What I consider the best race in Marin. One year ago I was lucky enough to meet 4 of the best riders I now know at this Race. Some how I convinced each one to let me tag along on a ride with them through out the year. As a group we all moved up from the B class to ride in the A 35+ class. Nevada City Dirt Classic race #3

This the last of a 3 race series held by the Youth Bicyclist of Nevada County. The group has a different location for each race. Race 3 was on the Hallelujah trail, 95%. Fast Single track. I decided to take 2 1/2 hr. drive up the morning of rather than go the day before. Parking and checking in was made easy by a great staff and I was ready to preride the well marked 5.8 mile trail by 8:45. 2016 Shorty #4

After seeing the aftermath of last week's severe crash in the A open group, the rest of the event suddenly seemed unimportant. Thankfully, I hear Nicolas is on the mend!

This week the A group was decidedly smaller which seems to be typical halfway through the Shorty series. The riders were no less slow and everyone bolted from the start as usual. Lemurian 2016

Perfect weather for the race. Absolutely perfect. 

I lined up a few rows back this year to remind me to take it a little slower on the first climb. Last year I was pretty fit and 6 full lbs lighter and was in the front group for the first 1/3 of the climb and I think going off full gas and attempting to be a front runner contributed to my crash on the 2nd to last descent where I knocked the wind out of myself and could never recover to finish the race strong (last year I was…
