The Call Up

Northern California Bicycle Racing Community

After a week off the bike and missing the 2nd race in the series last week, I was back once again for round 3 of the Shorty. I rolled up with my wife and little one early to soak in the vibe of the middle school races. They are so cool and it's fun to watch those little rippers!

We had another nice turnout, and lots of the familiar cast of characters from a couple weeks ago were back. One notable addition was my Acme Bikes team mate Wilson Perry. I hadn't seen him for a while, and I was glad he was there. It turns out he's spent the last year getting faster.

Here's how it went down. MG stood on the start line and talked a bunch of trash about how he was going to smoke me in the race. He started out fast and got the hole shot. I was 4th or 5th at the bottom of the dirt. Then on the pavement I passed him. I went quite hard to do that. I spent the next 5.5 laps of the race going hard and finished in first.

Big props to Simon for his cheering. On the last lap he rode next to me screaming at me to go faster. I tried to, but I was tired. Next time I'll do better, Simon. Also big props to Mandy and Tillie for cheering me on. They are the cutest cheering duo I've ever seen.
