I've made the Stafford Lake race my yearly cross race. Farm walls, transforming hay bale gardens, and stair run up are among the obstacles that I do no training for. Nothing like a CX race to remind me I wont stay in top shape riding four hours a week.
I started at the back of the pack and sucked dust right off the line. I took about 90 seconds for my lungs to sting, I haven't opened them up like that for quit a while. Going up the run up I believe I was in second to last place. At the top I passed a guy who had dropped his chain but he got me back on the flat section. and that's pretty much how the race went. with two laps to go I got lapped by the first two guys, then by Jim who I pulled for a minute. On the last lap I got passed by another 7 people. I'm not sure but I may have beaten one guy.
on the bright side I'm now pumped to be in shape for XC racing and maybe stay motivated to race more CX next year.
