Skyline

Skyline is my favorite local race.  The course never lets up.  The climbs are steep, tight, and technical and so are the descents. I think I have been doing this race for the last six years.  My best finish at Skyline was a while back when it was a state championship race.  I got first in my class and third overall,  not too many people showed up for it that year. Anyways, I love the race and I'm in great shape now but my crash at the rockhopper has left my wrist sore.  I'm forced to ride…

Rockhopper Classic/USA Cycling State Champ

The Rockhopper Classic is held in Vacaville on a dry exposed hillside.  Three laps, about 26 miles and 3800 feet of climbing total.  It's a great course for racing. With fireroad sections for passing, steep climbs for crushing fools, and flowing singletrack decents. But I wouldn't recommend riding there in over 80 degree heat, it was about 95 degrees.

This race was also a state championship race which seemed to mean very little.  Racers showed up so that they could qualify for…

Tamarancho

The Tamarancho Dirt Classic is just  a few miles form my front door so there are zero excuses for passing it up. This race is mostly singletrack with very few places to pass cleanly.  Aggressive riding can pay off.  Bike Monkey organized the event this year and they did a good job of spreading out the classes to reduce the amount of lapped riders.

The start line was packed with many strong pro racers, and many racers who I have gotten comfortable mixing it up with at the Summit…

2014 NVDC

Coming into this years NVDC I'm in my normal decent racing shape.  So I got to the start line 10 minutes before the start and ended up squeezing in at the back of the pack. I was just gonna have to get past as many people as I could before the single track.  Off the line we were charging hard, no one wanted to give up any spots, I was out of breath quickly, and thought I might pass out at the run up.  I had a chance to catch my breath while drafting up at the airport, but I also was able to…

Stafford lake CX

I've made the Stafford  Lake race my yearly cross race.  Farm walls, transforming hay bale gardens, and stair run up are among the obstacles that I do no training for.  Nothing like a CX race to remind me I wont stay in top shape riding four hours a week.

I started at the back of the pack and sucked dust right off the line.  I took about 90 seconds for my lungs to sting, I haven't opened them up like that for quit a while.  Going up the run up I believe I was in second to last…
