I was feeling good and stoked for the hometown race, but this was not going to be my day. At the start line I stood with people who seemed to be in my class, but when Wyro said go some people around me didn't move and others moved about four feet then stopped leaving me to push my way through. I was in last place. I caught the back end of the main field and passed a few people at Dead Heffer. I was feeling good and knew I would be dusting fools before the end of the race. On the climb up B-17 I punctured my tire and lost all hopes of being on the podium. Fumbling around for my extra tube and air can I must have dropped the air chuck. i ran out the rest of that first lap with my bike over my shoulder fixed my tire back at the tent and got back on the track. I soon became very annoyed. It had been almost 20 minutes and I was forced to pass about 75% of the field. I quickly got discouraged, finished off my first full lap, and spend the rest of the afternoon sipping a cool drink under the Summit tent.
