I've added a new type of racing to my resume. I've done down hill, cross country, dual slalom, and now I've got some BMX under my belt. the race is a series of elmination races. Each race is about a 50 second sprint over jumps around berms. when the jumps are to big for you, you can treat it like a giant pump track. It's a gated start with up to eight racers at a time. I was consistently a full wheel length behind the other racers right out of the gate. I've gotta work on my gate starts. On the rest of the track i could just about keep up with the expert class crew but I'm confident that after a few more races I'll be right in there mixing it up with the rest of the crew. The races are in Napa on wednesdays, it's just under an hour drive away. Practice begins about 2:00 racing starts about 6:00 and doesn't end until 7:30 depending on how many people show up. I'm not racing Downieville so this is how I'm gonna get my racing fix for the next few weeks. if any of you are interested in going let me know. there is a cruiser class so you can race your mountain bike. your wheels never have to leave the ground but this would be a great place to work on some technical skills.
